I quite often chat about the music festivals on this website but from time to time a read things associated with the industry and like to blog about it, Its because of this that i am adding a new category to the site so that posts much like this one have somewhere to go.

A big part of the industry is producing your tracks and selling them, As many Dj’s play with CDJ’s now its is a much more common to see CD Mastering instead of vinyl mastering, but what is it?

In simple terms CD Mastering is the process of placing your tracks onto a CD. In more complicated terms its also about having an engineer ‘master’ your work to get the best possible sound from your work. The engineer will work with balance and levels and using the EQ will give your work the more professional edge it needs if you are trying to get yopur music noticed.

If you are trying to break a record then you will be sending it to as many different people you can to listen to. The problem is you don’t know were the target will listen to the music, will it be listened to on headphones on a train trip or a plane journey or will it be played on a medium sized sound system in someones office or studio. This is most likely to be the case but what if your track is aimed at nightclubs or festivals? You need excellent sound quality and you need it to be excellent across devices and situations. A sound engineer can do all of this for you when Mastering a CD.
