Ive been quiet talking about the Wireless festival so far this year but it seems like they have taken us from behind by announcing what could be a great 2009 festival. The wireless festival is held in Hyde park in London and this year is held over two days.

The main headline is that Kanye West is performing his only UK festival date of 2009 on Sunday the 5th of July. Kanye played at Global Gathering last year and the media reported it as a success, I was there and in reality, although the crowd was very large when he first came on it dwindled very fast, I left the stage area after about 15 minutes and there were a lot of people following.

The bigger news from my point of view is that Basement Jaxx will be headlining the Saturday. Also playing are the  Streets and Dizzee Rascal. The most exciting act however is the Godfather of modern dance music. Paul Oakenfold will be performing at the festival. In recent years Oakenfold has not had the mass following he used to, a lot of paul Oakenfolds ‘fans’ are people who remember him in the past for playing some of the best sets ever.

O2 Weekender – Newcastle

This year as part of the O2 festival in hyde park they have organised the O2 wireless weekenders all round the country, this idea has been devised after the organisers scrapped the leeds leg of the festival. There will be 5 weekends in total and as i write up about the locations and the event details i will link to them from this page. The weekends organised are as follows:

O2 Wireless Weekends 2008

The organisers of the O2 Wireless Festival 2008 Have announced that Morrissey will be headlining on theFriday night.

The date will be Morrisseys only UK festival date in 2008 which means the O2 festival have excusivety on him. Morrissey is bringing with him 20 years of experiance as a songwriter and lyricist and has recently released a Greatest Hits album showcasing his top 20 singles. The O2 frestival will be his first ever open air show in London

O2 Wireless – The lineup so far

The company that organise the O2 festival have pulled the plug on the Leeds event, They say the cut down northern version of the London event has failed to take of since the first event in 2005.

Instead of holding an event in Leeds this year the event organisers have planned a number of indoor warm-up gigs to be played around the country leading up to the Hyde Park Event, These events will be called the O2 wireless weekender’s and will take place in May and June. The bands and artist that will perform at the wireless weekender will be confirmed acts that will also play at the Main event. Artists that have confirmed for the event this year are Fatboy Slim, Underworld, Bootsy Collins and Mark Ronson.
