Festival Discounts
In a world of financial doom and gloom festivals seem to be defiant against everybody being skint! The Heavenly Planet festival has been the first festival i have heard of that started to sell tickets and then decided to make the festival free, returning the money of people whom had already paid. Most of the other festivals give the impression of offering people a cheaper experience by offering “early bird” tickets frozen at the previous years price, In reality though this is a wolf in sheep’s clothing, There not giving you anything cheaper, its not an offer as such, Its not like they are handing out voucher codes to give you a real discount which incidentally wouldn’t be a bad idea. If you attend a festival the organisers give you a discount for the following year based on that years price, it would mean that the people that are going regular get it cheaper.
In 2008 there were a couple of festivals which fell by the wayside, credit crunch and high ticket prices means they struggled, this mixed with bad weather and they failed. The cost of putting on a festival im sure is immense, I know that Dj’s and performers command a large fee so maybe they are to blame? At the end of the day its Joe public that is left with the bill with the inflated ticket prices, this year the choice could be simple, do you go on holiday for two weeks in the sun or do you go to a festival for the weekend in a tent?!
