Glastonbury Crime Was Up

Crime at this years Glastonbury festival was up on previous years and was at its highest since 2003. Hi crime figures seem to coincide with nice weather at the festival. In the last few years when crime has been lower the weather has been considerably bad. The majority of the crime was thefts from tents and pick pockets. There were also 200 arrests for drug offences.

Another factor that is thought to have contributed to the higher crime figures was the fact that the festival didn’t sell out this year, 20,000 tickets were sold at the last minute without the need for the ID that the organisers have hailed such a success. This opened up an opportunity for organised gangs to co-ordinate activities. The worst part of this figures released however are the reports of two Rapes at this years festival, Something that had till now not been reported about.

Tickets for next years festival are available now at a price of £175 or a £50 deposit. Over 90,000 tickets have already been sold but there has been confirmation that tickets will not be sold this year last minute without ID if all the tickets don’t sell. However i have a feeling that they will for 2009.
