Jay To The Zee To The Wirelessly

Best headline of the week so far? i think so!!

If you cant tell from the title Jay Z has been confirmed to headline the this years Wireless festival in London. The festival is on the 2nd and 3rd of July 2010 and tickets for the event are priced at £47.50 per day.

The announcement of Jay Z at the festival has ruined the hopes of people who were expecting Eminem to be headlining. Jay will be returning to the UK after his controversial appearance at Glastonbury 2 years ago. Then it was massive news as it was the first time an RnB act had headlined Glastonbury or any of the major festivals for that matter.

Other artists confirmed for the Wireless festival are Pink who is headlining the other day and the Ting Tings who are doing the festival circuit yet again, have they got any new material yet?

Free Rage Gig

Christmas 2009 was the Christmas of people power and the power of the internet. Rage Against The Machine became the christmas number one in direct competition with the X factor. Ok the week after people had given up and X factor was number one but the week after Christmas isnt the Christmas Number One!

As a thank you Rage Against The Machine will be holding a free. On the 6th June Rage Against The Machine will perform in Finsbury Park as a thank you to everyone who put them number one which also raised a lot of money for homeless charities.

Glastonbury 6 Year License

The organisers of the Glastonbury festival have secured a 6 year license for the event keeping them till 2016 which will incorporate 5 festivals. In a strange turn of events, the license was given behind closed doors and without a public hearing from the locals which is the first time it has ever happened, the local council commented that it is the close working relationship over the years to make things go smoothly which has in turn resulted in almost no objections to the festivals license.

The license holds the festival to 177,500 people which im sure is enough!! it also holds them into the same regulations for the next 6 years, this has probably been a good move as the more time goes on the more regulations are put in place in terms of noise levels etc.

2012 will see a rest for the festival, this is a regular thing as they let the land recover for a full year and as 2012 is the year the Olympics is in this country, the resources needed will not be available.

Global Gathering 2010 Headliners

2010 marks the 10th anniversary for Global Gathering which has its home in Stratford upon Avon. Global has also fiercely battled with Creamfiields to become the countries best dance music festival, It is the favourite of a lot of people.

This year they have announced the first of the headliners. The first headliner is Faithless, not a massive surprise as if you are celebrating 10 years of a festival you need the best and in my opinion Faithless are the best you can get for a festival. Ive seen them before and they will make the weekend very special and no doubt sell those tickets a little faster!

The second headliner is Dizzy Rascal, last year Dizzy was performing at Creamfields which unfortunately suffered from the rain, This year i would expect the rain to be at bay ready for Dizzy to wow the crowds at Global. A couple of years ago Global put on Kanye West and to say the least i was very disappointed, Dizzy however is different in my eyes, He has lots of dance music elements in his music that crosses over very well. Armin Van Helden has had an influence on his last album producing some of the music being rapped over (bonkers was the first)

Rolling Stones To Headline?

This week seems to have been a boiling pot of Glastonbury Gossip, I’m sure its still very early in the process of confirming acts for next year but that doesn’t stop people talking. Last year if i remember correctly Madonna was an early name being thrown around and there seemed to be a long list of bands wanting to headline the festival including Take That if the gossip is to be believed.

This year however it is the Rolling Stones that are the favourites to headline the closing set on the Sunday. Sundays if the day when traditionally they have older acts to close the festival with likes of Bruce Springsteen  and Rolf Harris taking part last year.

According to Digital Spy, U2 and Prince also have short odds to perform at the festival. I think Prince would be something special for the 40th anniversary which i they will be pulling something out of the bag for. If they stick with the more modern bands such as Coldplay etc i think they are in major danger of having a festival the same as they always have.

UK Festival Awards 2009

The official end of the summer is imminent, all the festivals have had their go this year to impress and attract us back next year, Glastonbury has already won this little battle being the first festival of 2010 to completely sell out.

Its time however to vote, The UK Festival Awards are exactly what they sound like, they award festivals depending on what we say!

The categories are things such as ‘Best Major Festival’ and ‘best Medium Sized Festival’ I’m not to sure what the criteria are for being part of a category as some of the festivals are missing from categories id expect them to be in, there are also some festivals I’ve never heard of which obviously means i must try harder considering i write on a blog about music festivals!

If you want to take part in this years voting get onto the website now Uk Festival Awards.

Glastonbury 2010 – SOLD OUT

This isn’t a joke post, Glastonbury 2010 has officially sold out. Tickets went on sale at 9am yesterday morning and now if you check our the website there is a polite little message stating that the tickets have now sold out. It took only 12 hours to sell all the tickets this year which i am surprised about

Glastonbury 2010 has not released any of the line-up yet and i don’t think they will until well into next year. 2010 is the 40th anniversary for Glastonbury which one of the reasons could be for it selling out in record time, Other reasons could be ‘the financial market’ but i don’t really buy into that as ticket sales started to slide before all this erupted with tickets not even selling out two years ago.

I think personally the deposit scheme could be one of the reasons for the increase in first day applications, our Glastonbury reporter this year has decided to take the deposit option and this year i think this option has opened the festival up for more people.

Anyway whatever the reason its sold out. If you still want tickets then a few may become available over the coming weeks as people who have already applied fall out or the payments are refused.

Keep your eyes peeled for more news and any chances of tickets.
