Glastonbury Dance Village 2010

Glastonbury has a very long history, but with time it has always accommodated most if not all varieties of music, When Glastonbury first started dance music as we know it did not exist, a lot of the top Dj’s that rule the scene didnt exist, and now, Glastonbury have a whole village dedicated to it!

I wouldn’t go expecting a line-up to rival Creamfields or the other big dance festivals but you can certainly expect to hear some great music and sets from Dj’s you may not have heard of but can certainly deliver.

Charity Event For Dominique

In 2009 Creamfields was a really good weekend, a bit wet on the Sunday but nothing to dampen our spirits, After we had got home we heard the news that a woman had died in a car crash on the way to the festival which was awful news to hear.

In Dominique’s name a charity event took place in Liverpool recently which raised money for youngsters to develop through performing arts. The fund was set up by Edge Hill University were Dominique studied.

One of her close friends had the following to say

I wanted to do something to raise money for the trust set up in Dominique’s name. It will help young girls who want to dance and perform which is what Dom wanted to do. Dom was amazing – every time she went out she looked superb.

Shakira Does Glastonbury

Ive not blogged much about Glastonbury this year and in the past it has been a hot topic providing lots of news. In 2010 there doesn’t seem to have been as much hype surrounding the festival, if there has been, it has passed me by.

In more recent years there seems to have been a more pop edge to the festival creeping in and 2010 is no different, Shikera will be playing Glastonbury, don’t get me wrong, im sure she is a good performer, however if i go to a festival i don’t really want to listen to the people i hear on the radio all day at work! Thats the beauty of large festivals though, if i don’t want to listen to Shikera then that is more than ok because there is so much more going on.

Jay To The Zee To The Wirelessly

Best headline of the week so far? i think so!!

If you cant tell from the title Jay Z has been confirmed to headline the this years Wireless festival in London. The festival is on the 2nd and 3rd of July 2010 and tickets for the event are priced at £47.50 per day.

The announcement of Jay Z at the festival has ruined the hopes of people who were expecting Eminem to be headlining. Jay will be returning to the UK after his controversial appearance at Glastonbury 2 years ago. Then it was massive news as it was the first time an RnB act had headlined Glastonbury or any of the major festivals for that matter.

Other artists confirmed for the Wireless festival are Pink who is headlining the other day and the Ting Tings who are doing the festival circuit yet again, have they got any new material yet?

Free Rage Gig

Christmas 2009 was the Christmas of people power and the power of the internet. Rage Against The Machine became the christmas number one in direct competition with the X factor. Ok the week after people had given up and X factor was number one but the week after Christmas isnt the Christmas Number One!

As a thank you Rage Against The Machine will be holding a free. On the 6th June Rage Against The Machine will perform in Finsbury Park as a thank you to everyone who put them number one which also raised a lot of money for homeless charities.

Glastonbury 6 Year License

The organisers of the Glastonbury festival have secured a 6 year license for the event keeping them till 2016 which will incorporate 5 festivals. In a strange turn of events, the license was given behind closed doors and without a public hearing from the locals which is the first time it has ever happened, the local council commented that it is the close working relationship over the years to make things go smoothly which has in turn resulted in almost no objections to the festivals license.

The license holds the festival to 177,500 people which im sure is enough!! it also holds them into the same regulations for the next 6 years, this has probably been a good move as the more time goes on the more regulations are put in place in terms of noise levels etc.

2012 will see a rest for the festival, this is a regular thing as they let the land recover for a full year and as 2012 is the year the Olympics is in this country, the resources needed will not be available.
